Evidence for Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 2 as a Therapeutic Target for the Prevention of Pulmonary Hypertension

Currently available therapeutic strategies for pulmonary arterial hypertension are often not successful in preventing significant disease progression or death. This study shows that activation of pulmonary ACE2 enzyme by a newly discovered small synthetic molecule prevents pulmonary hypertension and vascular remodeling, and suggests that pulmonary ACE2 may be a novel target for the successful control of pulmonary hypertension.
